Does my child need to have any programming or robotics experience to enroll in this camp?
No, this camp curriculum is designed for students from beginner level. Students with no experience will be given an introduction into both robotics & programming.
One of my children is not within the age range of this camp. Is this camp appropriate for my child?
The age ranges provided by us are for informational and guidance purpose only. We feel that parents are the ultimate judge of where their child will comfortable. If parents are uncertain, we encourage parents to call us for appropriate recommendations on placement of their kids.
A family has two boys, 10 and 8. They are also interested. Would you accept both of them (the 8 year old)? They are very good on drawing cartons.
Yes, it would be OK for these two Korean boys to attend the classes since they are from the same family. They can help each other during the learning.
Do students need to bring their own computer?
Yes, students should bring their own computer. It is recommended to have PC with windows operating system. We will teach the students how to install the program and do some programming. Computer System minimum requirements: 2 GB RAM, 100 GB hard disk, Windows XP, Vista, 7, or 10. Internet Explorer 9.0 or later, or Safari, Chrome.
Are there any extra material fee? How much?
Yes, there are material fees for each class. For Robot Automation, the software and robot kit (EV3) cost about $350 plus tax. For Microduino Smart Technology, the kit costs $99 plus tax. For Arduino, the Ultimate Kit with Arduino Uno costs about $140. Exact costs will be given later. We will order the kits together for students to get volume discount and make sure the right kits are ordered. Students can keep using these kits and software for future competition or club. If students do not want to keep the kits, we can buy the kits back at 50% original price. The software is not refundable though.
Is there a discount if a student takes all three classes?
Yes, we will give some discount for those who take all three courses, especially for those who come from low income families.
Are there any hands on projects for the first two classes?
There are plenty hands on practice and activities in the classes, both individually and with group. We want to bring abstract concepts to life with a fun, hands-on approach that really engages students.
What language used in the classroom?
Our courses are offered in English. We accept and welcome other ethnic children in our camps.
We live quite far. Is there a place to stay during the lunch time if my boy takes two classes? If we are a little late to pick him up due to bad traffic, is there a place to stay?
Yes, we plan to provide lunch for those who stay the whole days with us. If we have enough kids who want this service, we will ask a caring lady to watch out the children and also offer some learning activities there until the parent pick them up (no later than 6:00 pm). There will be a fee for this extra service for lunch and daycare, depending on how many kids requesting such service in a class. Details will be worked out later.
